On the road to recovery

I went to see my GP as I was having some rectal bleeding every morning. My GP was suspicious of the bleeding and recommended that I should use my private health insurance and referred me to Mr Tariq Ismail at the Birmingham Bowel Clinic. I underwent some tests at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital- a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy and then a Colonoscopy, and it was confirmed that I had bowel cancer.

During this time I felt OK- I just wanted to get better and make a good recovery. I also had the support of Mandy, Mr Ismail’s colorectal nurse who was a wonderful support to me and my family during this time. I underwent two operations in the capable hands of Mr Ismail- an anterior resection last year and then ten weeks ago to have the stoma reversed I had a loop ileostomy operation. Both operations took place in the private section of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

I found Mr Ismail to be wonderful and had total faith in him. I am very happy with the treatment that I received and am making a good recovery.
