Massimo Garriboli

Training and experience

Mr Garriboli specialises in posterior urethral valves, hydronephrosis (kidney dilatation or obstruction), hypospadias and genital male and female anomalies (undescended testicles, inguinal hernia, foreskin conditions, varicocele, labial hypertrophy, labial fusion), recurrent urinary tract infections and bladder diseases (including vesico-ureteric reflux, dysfunctional voiding, urinary incontinence).

He graduated in medicine from the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan, Italy, in 2003. Having completed his specialist training in paediatric surgery and paediatric urology at centres in Italy and Spain, in 2011 he took up a Clinical Fellowship in Urology at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Mr Garriboli was appointed as a Consultant Paediatric Urologist at Evelina London Children’s Hospital in 2014. He has been a Research Fellow at University College London since 2010, working with Professor Paolo De Coppi on amniotic fluid-derived stem cells and tissue engineering with a particular focus on bladder replacement.

Mr Garriboli plays an active role in teaching and is Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London.

Awards

Mr Garriboli was awarded the First Poster prize at the 13th Congress of the European Paediatric Surgeons Association – 59th Congress of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons in 2012.

Research interests

Mr Garriboli’s research interests are focussed on bladder replacement, particularly amniotic fluid-derived stem cells, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.  He has obtained a grant for a research project entitled ‘autologous cell engineered bladder augmentation’.

He is also involved in clinical trials for the treatment of posterior urethral valves, pelvic ureteric junction obstruction, neuropathic bladder and hypospadias, as well as in the field of reconstructive urology.
