Wale Olarinde

Mr Wale Olarinde, MB BS, FRCS (Oto), FRCS (ORL-HNS), came to Sheffield to train in ENT/Head & Neck Surgery after completing his basic surgical training in the West Midlands and Greater London. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1999.

Mr Olarinde trained in all aspects of ear, nose and throat surgery including head and neck surgery at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital Sheffield, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Doncaster Royal Infirmary & Rotherham General Hospital. He received further subspecialist training in head and neck cancer surgery at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. He was a visiting fellow at Kiel University Teaching Hospital in Germany where he received training in the resection of throat cancers with lasers.

Mr Olarinde has attended (and continues to attend) conferences and meetings to keep up to date with evidence based treatments for his patients. His practice philosophy is to provide an individualised treatment plan for each patient.

Specialty

Mr Olarinde has a keen interest in the conservative excision of tumours, training medical students, general practitioners and junior doctors. He also believes in and aims to prevent head and neck cancers or early diagnosis.  His NHS practice is based at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital, and he is a core member of the head and neck cancer multidisciplinary team that discuss the treatment of all patients with head and neck cancers in the North Trent cancer network. He is also a core member of the North Trent Thyroid cancer multidisciplinary Team that discusses the management of all thyroid cancers (in the region) and indeterminate thyroid lumps.

Mr Olarinde regularly sees children in his practice and participates in the emergency rota of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

His clinical practice encompasses the whole spectrum of general ENT conditions. His subspeciality area of interest is head and neck surgery which includes both benign and malignant conditions of the head and neck region.

Research interests

Mr Olarinde has carried out basic science research looking at the breathing patterns of neonates (babies under a month old) at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.
