Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Hip and Knee Specialist,
A gold medal-winning surgeon, Mr Shah was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic and trauma surgeon at the Wrightington Hospital in 2006 and is part of a team that provides the North West Acetabular Fracture Service. Practicing as NHS consultant at Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust and in Manchester, he has a special interest in lower limb surgery, particularly patients with hip, knee and pelvic-acetabular problems. In 2014 he also completed the prestigious Rothman Ranawat American Hip Society Travelling Fellowship.
Mr Shah's clinical work concentrates predominantly on hip and knee replacement surgery for cases of arthritis, trauma, congenital abnormalities and failed implants, providing a range of procedures that are suitable both for the elderly and for the younger patient. He is skilled in the more demanding techniques needed for revision hip and knee surgery and has a particular expertise in cases of a fractured acetabulum (hip socket) following previous hip replacement surgery.
Mr Shah is also a skilled arthroscopic knee surgeon, offering expert diagnosis and treatment for problems such as cartilage damage and meniscal tears.
Mr Shah is highly experienced in Ganz osteotomy (periacetabular osteotomy), a specialist hip preserving surgical technique suitable for young patients with hip dysplasia whose arthritis is not too advanced. Involving surgery to re-shape the shallow hip socket so it is in a better position to fit the ball of the hip joint, Ganz osteotomy is a very successful procedure to improve the longevity of the hip joint and relieve pain in patients with adult hip dysplasia.
Mr Shah has undergone extensive medico-legal training and provides reports on clinical negligence within his specialist area of practice, including primary and revision hip and knee replacements, pelvic and acetabular fractures and long bone and periarticular trauma.

His workload is approximately split between 45:45:10 Claimant/ defendant/ single joint expert. He gets instructions from major UK solicitor firms and provides comprehensive CPR complaint reports.
Mr Shah teaches on various courses nationally and abroad, including courses on fractures, pelvic-acetabular trauma and arthroplasty.
