Breast care services at The Wellington Diagnostics & Outpatients Centre

The Diagnostics & Outpatients Centre at Golders Green now offers its patients a breast screening and mammography service.

Breast cancer can develop at any time, with one in nine women developing breast cancer at some time in their life. Performing regular self-checks to understand your own body and spot any changes early is essential as well as undertaking screening for lumps or breast cancers that are too small to be seen or felt.

Although breast cancer in women over 50 is more common and changes in your breasts may be harmless, it is best to inform your GP straight away if you spot any anomalies. Changes found at an early stage offer a better chance of successful recovery.

What does screening involve?

Breast screening uses mammograms (a form of x-ray) to look for breast cancers that are too small to be seen or felt.

If you are due for a screening mammogram, the advance technology used at the centre produces superior digital images which ensure the clearest quality image is produced, quickly and accurately.

Your mammography will be independently examined by two specialist breast consultant radiologists and your report will be sent to your GP within approximately 48 hours.

When can I be screened?

The breast screening service at the centre is available: Mondays from 9–12:30pm and Wednesdays from 1–5pm. Further appointment times are also available at The Wellington Hospital.
