Association of Independent Healthcare Organisations (AIHO)
The Association of Independent Healthcare Organisations (AIHO) is the trade association for independent healthcare providers across the United Kingdom.
AIHO was established in its current form in 2013, following a merger with the Independent Healthcare Advisory Service (IHAS). Representing over 90 per cent of all independent hospitals, it is the independent healthcare sector’s largest and most influential trade association and the only trade association that represents hospitals that provide services to insured, self-paying and NHS-funded patients. Its members range from large hospital groups to individual specialist hospitals.
AIHO works on the premise that the co-existence of an independent healthcare sector and a system of care free at the point of need is fundamental to the future of British healthcare. They believe that a system based on collaboration between different providers empowers patients, generates more capacity, frees up NHS resources and delivers the best treatment.
By providing a voice to stakeholders, the media and government, AIHO’s mission is to represent and protect the interests of their members, highlighting the crucial role that the independent sector plays in Britain’s healthcare provision and informing national debate about how to deliver a healthcare system fit for the 21st century.
AIHO represents member hospitals in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and also has a presence in the regions by means of the Scottish Independent Hospitals Association (SIHA) and the Welsh Independent Healthcare Association (WIHA).
Individual AIHO members are able to take advantage of member forums and networking opportunities, giving them access to key stakeholders and influencers, as well as industry information and intelligence. AIHO also supports industry conferences and seminars, raising standards across the sector, and, in conjunction with its members, produces a range of useful publications that add to the literature associated with running independent hospitals.
