TED is an autoimmune disease associated with an overactive thyroid gland. Symptoms include bulging eyes, diplopia, redness, painful swelling of the eyes, dry eyes and blurred vision in advanced stages. TED is diagnosed clinically by ocular signs and symptoms. Other tests are thyroid function tests, CT scan and MRI. TED is a self limiting disease. Treatment is performed with certain medicines (ocular lubricant and prednisolone) and surgery.
