Eye removal is done when the eyeball is diseased or cancerous. This is called an enucleation. This may be necessary for large eye melanomas. During the operation your eyeball will be removed but your eyelids will remain as well as the brow and the surrounding skin. In most cases, your surgeon will place a permanent eye implant into your eye socket.
