MISS FARAH LONE is a fantastic surgeon i would highly recommend her to anyone who is thinking of having these procedures. I was nervous about having the 3 procedures in one go,She said i would be fine and i was she done a perfect job and 11 weeks after the operation i feel great everything works good and no discomfort.

Appalling communications between nurses and doctors.I had to explain a long term medical condition to at least 4 members of staff but right up until 10 minutes before I was taken for surgery they still had it wrong !! This could have proved quite dangerous.Lack of aftercare for infections and pain amazed me
My doctor was on holiday so I had to seek treatment at a walk in clinic and my g.p.
I would not recommend this hospital at all.

The Duchy is a spotlessly clean environment with highly competent and motivated staff who welcome the patient and act as a well trained team. My surgeon did a brilliant job and his team in theatre was excellent as was the standard of aftercare in the hospital. On discharge from the hospital the follow up care was without fault. Just a few months after retiring to Cornwall my painful right hip became unbearable and left me struggling on crutches or in a wheelchair. Having lived all my life in a big City, I was nervous about visiting such a small hospital. How wrong I was. I am so grateful that we moved and was able to have the unbelievable care from everyone at The Duchy and especially the skill of such a superb surgeon. Just six weeks later I am completely pain free and walking without crutches. I cannot speak highly enough of everyone concerned and without any hesitation, I would absolutely recommend The Duchy. I have a huge phobia of hospitals and was so scared about my operation but found that it couldn't have gone any better! Everyone that cared for me during my treatment was absolutely incredible, so warm, caring and made me feel at ease, they also joked and laughed with me and I felt in really good hands, they couldn't do enough for me, the room was lovely and comfortable, I had my own en suite bathroom too. Couldn't be more over the moon with the outcome of treatment. I'm very bruised and swollen but can see already that I love it already. Feeling ecstatic after getting something I have been insecure about for several years 'fixed' Pain was minimal, my operation was today around 8 hours ago, I had general and local anaesthetic and had morphine when I woke up but have had nothing at all since. The area is sensitive of course but really nothing too bad and I am comfortable. Thank you so much, so pleased!

Mrs Dunlop ,and the excellent team ( ward staff,theatre staff,recovery,reception,kitchen,) was amazing !
From the moment I booked, to post care was impeccable. Nothing was too much trouble and the team make you feel more than a patient
at all times .
Food was sensational,with plenty to choose from each day......in fact I must have eaten more than I usually do ! :)
All of the staff made my stay in the Duchy simply wonderful and I was at ease with my procedure ,the time and care that I received was above excellent
Thanks to such a wonderful hospital,I have finally got my self-esteem back,and I would recommend the Duchy to friends and family.

This has now been my 3 visit to the Duchy Hospital under the expert care of Mr Morris.

I would like to express my sincere thanks and I wish to take the opportunity to praise all the staff at the Duchy from the Doctors to the cleaning staff.

Regardless that I was a private patient the care that I was given was beyond exemplary and the kindness and consideration afforded me, I feel, was always above and beyond any duty.

Mr Morris, who has performed surgery on me in the past, is in my opinion an excellent surgeon who I feel is realistic, kind and honest and has yet again transformed both my body and quality of life for the better. Words will never express my gratitude.

I would like to especially mention Attila who was the doctor on the wards during one of my stays at the Duchy. He was both kind and caring and when complications arose worked so quickly to resolve them whilst always ensuring that my fears and worries were allayed – nothing was too much trouble for him, he is a credit to your team, and again I cannot express my thanks enough.

As for all the nurses, who I am sorry to say were too numerous to mention each by name, what a fantastic team. They not only provided care but always took extra time out if I was nervous or worried to reassure me, and also to share the funny times too. They were also always there for my Husband as well if he became anxious about my health and were always quick to answer his queries or ascertain the Doctors opinion if warranted.

Finally I would like to thank the catering and serving staff who were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and the food was better than some restaurants I have eaten in!

In a world where everyone is so quick to complain and find fault I would like to take the time to say that although I elected to have surgery it was none the less a very nerve wracking and scary time for both myself and my family. The Duchy made it not just a safe environment to be in but the staff made it such a caring and welcoming environment that it made all the difference in the world to me and my husband knowing we were in the safest hands possible throughout each stage of my operation and recovery.

Stephen Parsons is inspirational. Saw him a week after my fracture for a second opinion as I was very depressed as my active lifestyle had been totally curtailed. We managed to see him the same day we called - thank you, Miranda, for your efficiency. He changed my rehab plan giving me the encouragement and the confidence to keep active, including swimming, gym bike, etc. My second appointment and X-rays confirmed progress was good so I am able to still have exercise even with my injury. All the staff were caring, considerate and efficient. No waiting around whatsoever and treated like I mattered and wasn't just a number. Feel very lucky to have Mr Parsons looking after my foot and am confident, if I follow his advice, my prognosis will be excellent.

Following my visit to the Duchy Hospital I feel compelled to write to you to express my gratitude for the care I received. When I entered the building the reception staff were attentive and ensured that I was put at ease immediately. The nursing, theatre staff and consultant, Mr Blake were professional throughout my short stay, giving me clear explanations as to what to expect.



I was accompanied by my sister who was kept informed of my progress during the visit.



I feel that what could have been a worrying experience was comforting due to the consideration of all the staff.

Every single member of staff was absolutely amazing! Although a cosmetic and self appointed operation, I was very worried and quite afraid of having surgery. The staff, from receptionist to HCAs, recovery nurses, Anesthetist Will Jewel and his assistants, and even the kitchen staff were all so wonderfully caring and made my surgery so much better simply by caring. Rebecca Dunlop is my hero! she is extremely thorough, understanding and very clever in her field. I trusted every word that she spoke when consulting and the results are so natural and comfortable. Recently received treatment at Duchy Hospital as a day case. Overall treatment was excellent, nothing I asked for was too much trouble. However, an apprentice that greeted me at reception and took me through to take my details was very rude and disinterested, this did not fill me with confidence at the start, but thankfully everyone else I met made up for this with their friendly approach.

Thank you to all the staff for the superb treatment during my colonoscopy on 20th June 2013. The helpfulness of the young man in the shed in the back yard on my initial visit, the warmth of the main reception lady on 20th June, the friendliness of Toni, the nurse who took me to the cubicle and sorted the details out, the reassuring confidence of Diana who took me to the treatment room and looked after me so competently all the time that I was being treated; the happy atmosphere in the treatment room amongst the team of Rachel, the others and in particular, Mr Lloyd-Davies, removed all my apprehensions about the procedure. Lastly, the lovely student Megan who discharged me surely has the makings of a very good nurse.

I have worn glasses since I was 17 and am now 37, I couldn't see without glasses for anything and having 3 children under 10 this was a hassle with swimming and holidays etc. Even looking which was the shampoo or conditioner was a hard task when showering.

Within minutes of surgery I had clear vision and could see the clock across the room. It was instant and amazing. Dr Kumar was a great a surgeon and kept me very calm throughout with no pain or discomfort throughout he whole procedure I would highly recommend him to anyone thinking of surgery.

2 months following surgery we had a family party which included Clay Pigeon shooting and I was able to hit a large number of clays which shows how accurate the surgery was. I now have 20/20 vision.

On arrival at the Duchy Hospital, I was ignored by every member of staff, which continued throughout my stay. I watched every other patient be welcomed and looked after - I was made to feel inferior to everyone else there.
After my procedure, cosmetic surgery on my face, the nurse advised me I MUST sit down and rest before being checked to see if I was okay to leave (due to the anesthetic and procedure). However, as I stepped out of the room, I was frog marched in front of the entire waiting room, through the hospital to the front desk to pay instantly for the procedure. This member of staff was abrupt, rude and would not leave my side until I paid - it was mortifying. I felt very unstable and unwell following my treatment and this was not only humiliating but dangerous due to how I was feeling. I felt so hurt by this, I left immediately after paying - though I still felt unwell I did not want to stay in the presence of the hospital and the staff. No one checked to see if I was okay, let alone contact me when they noticed I had left prematurely.
I paid a lot of money for a service I did not receive. There was an absolute absence of any care or comfort and, when you are there for self esteem issues, this is appalling.
I contacted the manager as I was so upset by my experience, but only received an insincere 'apology' and a brush off.
Overall, there was a total lack of regard at the hospital and I would not recommend their 'service' to anyone.

Just wanted to say that if you want Lasik Eye correction Surgery then you should go and book at the Duchy Hospital in Cornwall and with Mr Kumar. All the staff were excellent my day patient stay couldn't have been any better if I had wanted. My Lasik Eye Surgery has been excellent and would recommend it here to anyone that wants to have very good eye sight again. I couldn't be happier have 20/20 plus vision and my night driving vision is excellent no more light glares or road glares off the road if it's been raining you will know what I mean if you wear glasses and drive at night it can be horrible well I don't get that problem anymore. The after care is brilliant and I would like to say that Mr Kumar is very caring understanding and everything is explained every step of the way,you can ask as many questions as you like and not feel silly about asking them. On the day of my Lasik eye surgery the staff team were excellent and I had a lovely nurse to hold my hand and talk to me all the way through the procedure, which is very quick, I could see clear the time of the clock on the wall the first time without glasses/contacts, it didn't hurt you do feel pressure and my eyes did water a bit after, then you get to relax for as long as you feel you need too and I had a very nice light lunch brought to me and the quickest way to recover is to go home and sleep on it which I did only 2hrs and I could start to see very well. It all takes a bit of getting use too your brain has to re a just and so do you. It's been 4 months and my Eye sight is excellent am over the moon with the results. This was my first visit to the Duchy and have been back again for treatment on my fingers/hand which was also excellent. So all I can say again is If you want excellence make the Duchy Hospital in Cornwall your first port of call. A very happy patient, Caroline St.Day Cornwall.

This Lazik procedure was 5 star from the start. The Consultant Mr Kumaravel explained every part of the process at the assessment appointment. On the day of the procedure he was again available both before and after to answer questions. He led his team during the procedure very professionally. The follow up appointments beginning on the day after the procedure were very reassuring and all in the excellent Duchy hospital environment. The result for me exceeded all expectations as I had better than 20-20 vision overnight with contact lenses and distance glasses now things of my past.

I had the operation very early on Friday, and could not fault my treatment on that day. It is only 9 days since the operation, so it is too early to assess the outcome, although I think some 'adjustments' will be necessary.

I get the feeling that the staff during the weekends are not as well trained as the weekday staff, because the treatment on Saturday and Sunday (when I was discharged) was rather poor. I was told someone would wash my hair to get rid of any blood, but no one did, and I do not remember anyone cleaning the incision lines.

When I came back on Friday to have the stitches removed the treatment was excellent, but it became obvious that the weekend staff had allowed me to leave with a lot of dried blood etc around the incisions and inside the ears, causing an infection. I did not bleed at all when I was at home, so the blood must have been there when I left the hospital.

I was given no instructions about cleaning the incisions before I left.

Surely cleaning thoroughly around incisions is the most basic requirement of hospital care?

I can't recommend this surgery at the Duchy in Cornwall enough. The care from beginning to end from Mr Kumar and his team was second to none. I have genuinely felt like this has changed my life, and as a staff nurse I cannot fault the service received. My eyesight is now so sharp and better than when i ever had glasses or lenses. Any concerns or questions are immediately laid to rest with exceptional advise and aftercare. If you are thinking of having LASIK go for the free consultation. The procedure is quick and pain free, over in 10 minutes. Again I will say, it has changed my life! Thank you
