Dislocations usually happen when there is a blow or trauma to the bone or the joint. One of the most common parts of the body affected by dislocations is the shoulder; the bone of the arm may have popped out of the socket of the joint that connects the arm to the shoulder. Treatment usually includes applying a cast and a sling to temporarily immobilize the part. It takes 12 to 16 weeks for this kind of dislocation to heal. Treatment depends on the result of X-rays and ultrasound.
