Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of a feeling of head spinning or a feeling of imbalance. Such a feeling comes on suddenly and subsides spontaneously, and it is usually a harmless condition. The problem lies in the semi-circular canals situated in the ears which are responsible for maintaining balance. It is most common in women aged 50 to 60 years. Migraine in children may also cause imbalance. The patient may also complain of nausea, vomiting and light-headedness. Ear infections, brain diseases and certain drugs may be the inciting factors for developing BPPV.
