This is a fungal infection of the skin of the foot, most commonly occurring between the toes. The skin normally harbours fungal spores that are not harmful. But if the foot is kept warm, moist and airless then these spores become active causing infection. This usually occurs in athletes who sweat excessively and/or do not maintain foot hygiene. An itchy white coloured rash develops from which flakes fall off.
