Anal cancer is a gut, bowel and stomach conditions more likely to develop in individuals with the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection; HIV infection; cigarette smokers and those with cancer elsewhere in the body. Such patients have pain in the anal region, bleeding and/or a tumour which may or may not protrude from the anus downwards. This condition can present with a spectrum of severity ranging from no symptoms to the presentation of a large mass, extensive bleeding and excruciating pain. A colorectal surgeon may have to remove part of the colon and rectum.
