Cancer statistics used in this guide are the latest official ones from the Office of National Statistics, as at September 2014. The ONS publishes a vast range of figures on cancer, freely available online.
There are three main sources of information on cancer:
Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the largest cancer research organisation in Europe. It funds research and offers information on all aspects of the disease from its causes, to treatment and prevention, education and psychological support for patients.

Macmillan Cancer Support
The charity Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. It provides practical, medical and financial support with booklets on cancer and treatment.

The national helpline offers advice on conditions, local services, treatment, and healthy living. It cannot offer advice on private treatment: www.nhs.uk
