About UK Vein Clinic

At UK Vein Clinic results and evidence matter. Their care pathways have been rigorously designed by leading vein specialists Mr Stephen Black and Dr Peter Finigan, to ground their whole process in the latest medical science, and gear everything they do towards delivering the best outcome for each patient.

To identify the source of your varicose veins and map their course, they start with a full duplex ultrasound of the legs. (For thread or spider veins in the face and elsewhere, see the ‘Treatment’ section below.)

The current clinical evidence indicates that most varicose veins are best treated using specialist radiofrequency ablation. This technology means the procedure can be carried out under local anaesthetic, in a suitable clinical setting.

Because UK Vein Clinic guarantee a successful outcome to every varicose vein patient, they'll conduct a second full duplex ultrasound 6 weeks after treatment, to ensure the veins they've treated are indeed closed.

For some residual varicose veins in the legs or feet, they might recommend the use of foam sclerotherapy. This involves using ultrasound to precisely guide the injection of foam to close the unhealthy vein. The foam causes the vein to collapse, following which it is naturally absorbed back into the body.

All treatment is carried out at the UK Vein Clinic in London at 150 Harley Street.

UK Vein Clinic is the smart choice for healthy veins.

Walk in walk out vein treatments

UK Vein Clinic provide the full range of treatments for vascular disease including thread veins, varicose veins and leg ulcers.

They believe the best outcomes are achieved through a combination of endovenous radiofrequency ablation (EVRA), foam sclerotherapy and, for the smaller thread veins, micro sclerotherapy.  For facial veins they tend to use Veinwave technology which has proven to deliver the best outcomes to their patients.

Full duplex ultrasound scan

The first and final steps in the process include a full duplex ultrasound scan, carried out by accredited clinical vascular scientists with decades of experience. These tests provide a full and accurate ‘map’ of your veins, including the direction of blood flow, which helps us diagnose any vascular disorders.

Endovenous radiofrequency ablation (EVRF)

This minimally invasive form of surgery offers the best varicose vein solution currently available in the industry. It uses radio energy to generate and direct a precise source at the vein wall. This collapses it and causes it to seal up. Thermal treatments like this are recognised by the UK’s National Institute for Clinical Excellence as the best option for varicose vein treatment.

Foam sclerotherapy

To close some veins, we inject a special foam directly into the vein. This foam is formed with a saline solution, a naturally occurring fluid within the body. In a more concentrated form, it irritates and closes the vein wall. Sclerotherapy is an older form of precise surgery, now greatly improved using advanced duplex ultrasound scanning

Micro sclerotherapy

Micro sclerotherapy uses the same solution used in foam sclerotherapy, but more diluted. It is also used in liquid form, instead of foam. With even the smallest veins (thread veins), it is important to discover any underlying causes that might need to be treated prior to the micro sclerotherapy being undertaken. This is where the ultrasound scan offers a detailed assessment.
