About Dr Saad Khalaf
Dr Saad Khalaf DPM, Dip Psych and Neuro, FRCPsych is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over 20 years' experience managing psychiatric problems in both adults and older adults. He aims to deliver the best possible care package for his patients, thus offering domiciliary visits by arrangement.
Dr Khalaf undertook his initial training at the Maudsley Hospital/St. George’s and completed his specialist training at St. Mary’s and St. Charles Hospital. Dually accredited on the GMC Specialist Register in both Adult and Old Age Psychiatry, his clinical commitments cover all areas of mental health, with a specialist interest in treating individuals over the age of 50, including those who present with mood disorder/resistant depression, anxiety and memory disorders.
Treatment and services
Mainly based at Psychiatric & Psychological Consultant Services, 14 Devonshire Place, Dr Khalaf specialises in treating patients suffering from a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including:
- Bipolar disorder
- Depression
- Schizophrenia
- Alzheimer's disease
His particular interests include mood disorder and depression, bipolar disorders, psychotic illness such as schizophrenia, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and substance misuse.
A recognised Expert Witness, Dr Khalaf is experienced in providing court reports and assessing mental capacity. His main areas of expertise are within elderly psychiatry and cover resistant depression, anxiety, memory disorders and dementia including Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr Khalaf is a member of the General Medical Council Fitness to Practice Panel.
Consultation
Dr Khalaf's initial consultation fee is between £300 and £350 depending on the complexity of the case, and follow up prices are dependent on time, but the average price is £180. He is available for consultation on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and is able to arrange to see patients outside of those days if need be.
Clinical interests
Over the past two decades, Dr Khalaf has obtained significant experience in managing dementia in general, and in particular, Alzheimer’s disease. The management includes assessment, which covers all physical, psychological and social aspects, and discussion of treatment and recommendations.
Research interests
Dr Khalaf has researched dementia in general, and multi-infarct dementia in particular. He has also studied Alzheimer’s disease and mapped out management plans. Epidemiology of depression in older adults features strongly in Dr Khalaf’s research interests and he has published a number of papers within this specialty.
Dr Khalaf has published papers in the fields of multi-infarct dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. He has also published and researched depression in the elderly and has developed special expertise in treating resistant depression. Dr Khalaf has dealt with all mental health issues encountered in individuals over the age of 60.
