Kalu Ogbureke: Consultant Paediatrician in London
Dr Kalu Ogbureke is a highly experienced Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in neonatology and respiratory. With a private practice based in London’s Harley Street Medical Area, he provides specialist treatment for a wide range of paediatric conditions, including asthma, chronic cough, feeding problems in infants and paediatric infections.
Training and experience
Dr Kalu Ogbureke graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1987. He then went on to complete his specialist training in paediatric medicine at King’s College Hospital London and at Bristol Royal Hospital for Sick Children, before being appointed Consultant Paediatrician at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, London in 2002.
Currently Consultant Paediatrician at Frimley Park Hospital in Camberley Surrey, Dr Ogbureke has worked in paediatrics at consultant level in both the NHS and private sector for the last 17 years. During this time he has gained vast experience in the management of complex medical and social paediatric problems, as well as an expertise in neonatal and paediatric respiratory medicine.
From 2010 to 2016, Dr Ogbureke spent a sabbatical in Nigeria. Firstly at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara, where he designed, set up and developed the Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and then at the Obijackson Children’s Hospital in Okija, where he carried out the same role. In addition to gaining a wealth of experience in paediatrics in general, he also gained extensive experience in the management of tropical childhood diseases such as malaria, TB and infective gastroenteritis.
Dr Ogbureke holds the Diploma in Child Health (DCH) from the Royal College of Physicians of London and is highly experienced in primary care paediatrics. He works closely with and teaches health visitors in the areas of child development, health promotion, immunisation and resuscitation, and teaches community midwives basic neonatal life support.
Dr Ogbureke is also actively involved in the teaching of junior doctors, nurses and medical students. He has been a visiting examiner to the Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’s Medical Schools in London and was an examiner for the West African Postgraduate Medical College. He has twice been invited as an international guest lecturer to the Annual Scientific Conference of the Paediatric Association of Nigeria.

Dr Ogbureke provides private assessment, diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of conditions affecting children and newborn infants at The Harley Street Clinic and The Portland Hospital in London’s Harley Street Medical Area. He also provides private services at the Parkside Suite in Frimley Park Hospital, and at Chiswick Outpatient and Diagnostic Centre, London.

Dr Ogbureke has a specialist clinical interest in neonatal paediatrics and paediatric respiratory medicine. He is highly experienced in providing expert management of premature and full term babies with respiratory failure, as well as dealing with respiratory disorders in children and newborns such as asthma, chronic cough and chest infections.
His other areas of clinical interest include all aspects of general paediatrics, feeding problems in infants and paediatric infections.
Dr Ogbureke has extensive experience in the conduct of randomised controlled trials and systematic reviews and regularly teaches on evidence-based medicine courses.
He was the local co-ordinator at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich for the ‘EPICURE 2’ study, a multicentre, UK and Ireland wide study looking at the outcomes of babies born below 27 weeks’ gestation.
