Training and experience

Professor Martin Filipec is one of the Czech Republic’s foremost ophthalmologists. Having qualified as a Doctor of Medicine at Charles University, Prague he undertook a Corneal Fellowship in the Department of Ophthalmology at Hotel-Dieu in Paris followed by a Research Fellowship at Harvard Medical School where he qualified as a professor.

 Choosing to return to the Czech Republic rather than take up a professorship at Harvard, he was appointed the first professor of ophthalmology at Charles University in Prague, one of Europe’s leading universities, and established that country’s first private eye hospital, the Lexum Eye Clinic.

Professor Filipec has over 25 years’ experience in laser eye surgery and is a pioneer in corneal transplants. His extensive specialist knowledge of eye micro-surgery, corneal transplants, cataract surgery and laser surgery puts him in high demand as a trainer of eye surgeons in Eastern Europe and Afghanistan. He is scientific advisor to Zeiss and Alcon and a Director of the International Ocular Inflammation Society.
