Kin Sheng Lim: Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in London
Professor Lim is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at St Thomas’ Hospital in London and Professor of Ophthalmology (Glaucoma Studies) at King’s College London. He is the lead of the glaucoma service, the research lead for the Ophthalmology & Pain departments, and the director of the Frost KCL Eye Research Department at St Thomas’ Hospital. He is an internationally renowned expert in glaucoma treatments. Skilled in the latest techniques, he offers private glaucoma treatment, cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation at Kersley Eye Clinic and The London Clinic in Harley Street.

Training and experience
Professor Lim qualified from University of Leicester Medical School in 1991 and undertook his general ophthalmology training in Reading and London. He subsequently received glaucoma training both in London and in the United States.
He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1996 and in 1997 spent two years researching a new surgical treatment of glaucoma at the Institute of Ophthalmology, Moorfields Eye Hospital and the University of Brighton. He was awarded his Doctorate in Medicine (MD) from University College London for this work in 2001.
In 2001, Professor Lim received a scholarship from the International Glaucoma Association allowing him to research human aqueous dynamics under the supervision of Drs Brubaker and Johnson at the Mayo Clinic in the USA.
An internationally recognised expert in glaucoma treatments, Mr Lim has been Director of the Glaucoma Service at St Thomas’ Hospital since 2006 and head of Ophthalmology research since 2010.
Clinical Interests
Professor Lim has a specialist interest and pioneer in many innovative glaucoma surgeries, including SLT laser, iStent, trabeculectomy, Baerveldt tube, Ahmed valve, Pauls’ Implant, Microshunt (PreserFlo) implant, Xen implant, Hydrus implant, endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation (ECP) and Micropulse laser.
Professor Lim’s clinical interests also includesmall incision cataract surgery and the implantation of premium intraocular lens options such as toric or multifocal lenses.
Research Interests
Professor Lim’s Doctorate thesis comprised research on a new type of implant for the treatment of glaucoma. As the director of the Frost KCL Research Department at St Thomas Hospital, Professor Lim led a large research group and is currently chief or principal investigator in numerous clinical trials focussing on human aqueous dynamics and treatment of glaucoma. Internationally recognised in his field, he has delivered over 200 lectures to audiences at home and abroad in the last ten years. He has published over 100 scientific abstracts, scientific papers and book chapters.
Professor Lim is on the editorial and executive boards of a number of scientific journals. He is a regular contributor to the scientific literature and is co-editor of the ophthalmology textbook Managing Complications in Glaucoma Surgery (Springer International Publishing, 2017).
