Mr Chetan Bhan is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at the Whittington Hospital in London, where he is lead for colorectal cancer. He is also a board member of the UCLH Colorectal Cancer Collaborative. A member of GI Doctors, a multidisciplinary team of leading London specialists, he provides private treatment for colorectal conditions, hernias and gallstones at leading private clinics in the Harley Street Medical District and North London.

Training and experience

Mr Bhan qualified from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’, London in 1998, going on to undertake his surgical training in hospitals in London and the South East. As part of his surgical training, he spent two years researching lower gastrointestinal functional disorders, particularly pelvic floor disorders, at The Royal London Hospital. He also trained in advanced colorectal surgery, including complex inflammatory bowel disease, perineal reconstruction and intestinal failure.

Mr Bhan completed his surgical training in Sydney, Australia, where he undertook a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic techniques in colorectal surgery, in particular, Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS).

Mr Bhan was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon in 2012. In his current role at the Whittington Hospital, he is lead for colorectal cancer and has developed the SILS colorectal service. He is also the Training Programme Director for surgical training in North, Central and East London, as well as Essex.
