Dr Nicholas Robinson is a highly experienced high-volume interventional cardiologist. Dr Robinson has over 20 years of experience in providing high-quality services in all aspects of adult cardiology and heart treatments. Since graduating from Cambridge University, he has gained particular expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, heart attacks, the role of stent insertion and the diagnosis and treatment of angina symptoms while working at St. Batholomew’s Hospital and The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre. He has vast experience in treating a wide range range of adult cardiology issues.

Education and training

After studying as a full scholar at Dulwich College, Dr Robinson was awarded an exhibition by St John’s College to study medical sciences at the world-famous Cambridge University. During this time, he attended clinical studies training at St Thomas’ hospital in London, before graduating from Cambridge University in 1987.

Following his graduation, Dr Robinson was appointed cardiology registrar at King’s College and then senior registrar at St Bartholomew’s and the London Chest Hospitals. His role exposed him to angiography, coronary angioplasty and stent insertion. He was appointed as a Consultant at St Bartholomew’s Hospital before helping to set up the new state of the art Essex Cardiothoracic Centre. He has been Cardiac Network Lead and has previously set up hypertension services to include renal artery denervation. Further information is available via his website:

Clinical interests

Offering a comprehensive private practice that covers a full range of adult cardiology treatments, Dr Robinson has been trained to manage all adult cardiac patients but specialises in angina and heart attack treatment using stents. The full list of cardiovascular treatments that he performs includes coronary stent insertion and angioplasty, cardiac surgery, cardioversion, and treatment of angina/heart attack, heart failure, hypertension and palpitations.

Not only does Dr Robinson offer premium cardiac treatments, but he also performs a full range of heart investigations. Investigations that he carries out includes Coronary Angiography, Electrocardiograms (ECGs), Cardiac Monitoring (patch test monitoring), 24 hour blood pressure monitoring, Echocardiography, Cardiac CT scans and calcium scores, and Cardiac MRI.

All procedures that Dr Robinson completes are submitted for audit both locally and nationally. Of the completed procedures, his complication rates remain consistently low and compare favourably with national data presented by the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society.

Research interests

Since his training, Dr Robinson has been actively involved in cardiovascular research. The success of his work earned him an MD thesis at the University of Cambridge, and also the honour to present his personal research at the American Heart Association, European Cardia Society and British Cardiac Society. He has published multiple peer-reviewed journals on basic cardiovascular science and clinical cardiology, and is widely considered an expert on the subject of coronary stents.

Frequently he is involved in the teaching of clinical cardiology to both undergraduates and postgraduates. He also trains registrars in interventional cardiology, teaching them interventional procedures to manage stable and emergency patients.
