Vein thrombosis
Vein thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot in the vein. The most common type of venous thrombosis is deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The main causes of formation of venous thrombi are hypercoagulability and activation of the lining of blood vessels called endothelium. Risk factors include old age, pregnancy, immobilization, post operative complication, obesity and infections. Treatment is usually done with anticoagulants. Avoiding risk factors helps in preventing venous thrombosis.
