Tungiasis
Tungiasis is an inflammatory disease of the skin. It is caused by a sand flea called Tunga penetrans. Common symptoms are formation of a painful nodule, ulcers with a black area in the middle. It most commonly burrows into the skin of the feet. Gangrene can be a severe complication. Tungiasis can be a common cause of painful feet in travellers.
