Torsion of the testis

Torsion of the testis

Torsion of testis is a condition in which a testis is twisted in the scrotum. It is an emergency condition. It is most common in teenage boys. It occurs in those individuals whose testes can move around more than normal due to more flexible tissues. Symptoms include severe pain in the affected testis that may radiate to the abdomen. The affected testis becomes painful and inflamed. Pain starts at night and is strong enough to wake you from sleep. An emergency operation is performed within 6 to 8 hours to treat the torsion.
