Toothache is the pain in or around a tooth. Toothache is usually worse at night. The most common cause is tooth decay or caries. Other causes include inflammation of the pulp, gum recession, trauma to the teeth, improperly placed or broken fillings, erupting wisdom teeth and trauma to temporomandibular joint. Symptoms include sensitivity to hot, cold and sweet foods and dull or sharp throbbing pain that can radiate to the jaw and ear. Treatment depends on the underlying cause. Most common procedures are filling and root canal treatment.
