The surgical removal of the stomach is known as a gastrectomy. There are 4 types of gastrectomy: total gastrectomy, partial gastrectomy, sleeve gastrectomy and oesophagogastrectomy. Indications are stomach cancers, life-threatening obesity, stomach ulcers and tumors. Two techniques used for gatrectomy surgery are open surgery and keyhole surgery. Complications are infection, bleeding, anemia and osteoporosis.
