'Senile dementia' is a somewhat outdated term that was used to describe memory loss and confusion in the elderly. It was also thought that it as a normal part of ageing, rather than being caused by specific diseases such as Alzheimer's. These days, it is more common to refer to dementia, or early-onset dementia if the person is under 65.
