Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment (RCT) is a routine dental procedure used to treat an infection in the root canal. RCT is intended to save the tooth by removing the infected pulp from the root. Common indications are dental abscesses and pain. It is carried out under local anaesthetic. The tooth is opened by gaining an access to the root canal. All the infected pulp is removed by the dental specialist and canal is dried. Once any pain or discomfort has settled down, the canal is filled with suitable filling material.
