Osteoarthritis and related disorders
Osteoarthritis is a bone condition that affects the different joints in the body. The symptoms of osteoarthritis vary according to the degree of damage to the affected joint or joints. There is mild to moderate inflammation of the joints and the tissues surrounding it, damage to the cartilage that supports the joints and the development of bony growths in the joints. The joints mostly affected are the knees, hips, joints in between the digits of the hands and feet and the spine. Orthopaedic surgeons or, more specifically, knee and hip surgeons can treat this condition by resurfacing or replacing the joint and an MRI scan is used to diagnose the condition.
