Peripheral neuropathy is a group of disorders that affect the peripheral nervous system. Damage to the peripheral nerves can lead to a variety of symptoms such as numbness, tingling in the toes and fingers, stabbing or shooting pains in various areas of the body and loss of balance and muscle weakness along the lower extremities. The most common cause of neuropathy is diabetes.
