The current drug of choice to treat the disease is diethylcarbamazine (DEC). It is given orally in a dose of 6mg/ kg/day and taken 3 times daily for 12 days. The pediatric dose is the same. DEC is mainly effective against larvae (immature worms) as opposed to adult worms. Surgical removal of worms from the conjunctiva may be considered in rare cases.
