HIV test
A HIV test is performed from a blood sample. In this test antibodies to the HIV antigen p24 are tested. If antibodies to p24 antigen are found, test is positive. A test is considered negative if antibodies are not found. It can take up to 4 weeks for a laboratory test to come through from the sexual health specialists. However, there are also home test kits now available which use saliva as the testing medium.
