Dialysis treatment is a treatment that takes over the kidney's normal function to filter and flush out waste from the body. Patients with kidney disease and kidney damage are often required to undergo dialysis as their kidneys are no longer able to filter this waste from the body. The patient is hooked to a dialysis machine, which takes the blood that is pumped into the machine and filters it of impurities and excess electrolytes. The blood is then returned back into the body.
