Diabetes
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder in which blood glucose levels are increased beyond normal. The three common types are Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes. Common symptoms are polyuria, polydipsia, fatigue and weight loss. The cause is either a disturbance in insulin production or function. The main complication of diabetes is diabetic neuropathy, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy and diabetic foot. It is important to manage the condition by keeping blood glucose close levels as close to normal as possible. This is accomplished by dietary restrictions, exercise and medications e.g. insulin.
