A corneal transplant is a surgical procedure that allows the damaged, opaque cornea to be removed and replaced with a clear, healthy cornea from a donor. A corneal transplant is the only real alternative for keratoconus, a condition which causes the corneas to change shape. The operation takes about an hour and is performed with the help of microscope.
