Colon and rectal cancer

Colon and rectal cancer

The colon and rectum are parts of the bowel. Old age, cancer amongst family members, certain inflammatory conditions of bowel, alcohol and presence of protuberances in the lumen of bowel known as polyps are known risk factors identified with developing this type of cancer. Patients may have bleeding from the anus, diarrhoea or constipation, abdominal pain or feeling of a mass inside while defecating. Patients are diagnosed with the help of a flexible telescope inside the bowel and a biopsy by a colorectal surgeon
