When the heart (‘cardiac’) muscles (‘myo’) become abnormal (‘pathy’) in structure or function due to certain defined causes then it is called  cardiomyopathy. The cause may be abnormally functioning kidney(s), thyroid disease, infection, hormonal disorders, etc. An abnormal awareness of heartbeat (‘palpitation’), breathing difficulty, fatigue, swelling of body parts and chest pain can occur.
