Atopic eczema

‘Atopy’ refers to the tendency for a person to be allergic to a known or unknown substance. ‘Eczema’ or dermatitis means the presence of redness, itchiness, fluid containing protuberances (vesicles) and crusts of dead tissue on the skin. Mostly children under 5 years of age are affected who may be allergic to soaps, detergents, wool, certain foodstuffs, pollens and virtually any substance in the environment that they come in contact with.
