Atopic eczema

Atopic eczema

‘Atopy’ refers to the tendency for a person to be allergic to a known or unknown substance. ‘Eczema’ or dermatitis means the presence of redness, itchiness, fluid containing protuberances (vesicles) and crusts of dead tissue on the skin. Mostly children under 5 years of age are affected who may be allergic to soaps, detergents, wool, certain foodstuffs, pollens and virtually any substance in the environment that they come in contact with. Psychological stress may also be a responsible factor.
