Anorexia nervosa

Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric eating disorder. Anorexia is a serious condition - which can potentially be deadly - and affects all sorts of people. It has become more common in boys and men in recent years, although it is mostly seen in female teenagers. Sufferers avoid food or indulge in excessive eating followed by purging (self-induced vomiting). They have a profound body image problem, suffer with anxiety, depression, anaemia, hair-thinning, osteoporosis and a compulsion to over exercise. Treatments include antidepressants, psychiatric treatment and counselling  as well as nutritional counselling.
