The surgical removal of adenoids is called a an adenoidectomy. The adenoids need to be removed when infections occur regularly. Infections cause swelling of the adenoids and they become very uncomfortable, often causing problems with breathing and hearing. Allergies could also make the adenoids swell and become painful. It takes about 30 minutes for an adenoidectomy to be performed by an ENT surgeon
