Abdomen examination by camera (laparoscopy)
An abdomen examination by camera, or laparoscopy, is a diagnostic procedure that allows the specialist to visualise the interior tissues and the structures of the abdomen in a relatively non-invasive manner. A laparoscope is a small fibre optic camera that is inserted through a small incision in the abdominal wall. This camera is connected to a monitor for the examiner to view the abdomen internally. This method of investigation helps doctors to spot abnormalities such as growths, obstructions and the source of a bleed or pain.
