Gastric band/lap band

Gastric band/lap band

Gastric band or lap band is a band that is surgically placed around the stomach by an obesity surgeon to reduce its size. Since the stomach is smaller after surgery, it takes a smaller amount of food to fill it up and hence the patient eats less and loses weight. There are now new versions of gastric band placement that do not require any surgery which can be discussed with your surgeon. A gastric balloon or bypass may be considered as alternative treatments and following losing weight, a tummy tuck is recommended to remove excess skin and tighten muscles.
