Want to know more about DNA testing? David Hartshorne of DNA testing service Orchid Cellmark in Oxfordshire answers some common questions about the DNA testing process from choosing a lab to receiving the results.
The whole process of paternity testing is relatively straight forward. First of all you need to consider carefully whether or not paternity testing is right for your situation.
Consider all the implications of having testing carried out before you then go ahead and choose the tester that you think is right for you. It is very important that you choose a tester that is reliable and accredited and one that is going to provide the level of service that you are interested in.
The next stage would be for you to arrange an appointment with your local doctor or nurse to have your sample taken. It is very important that this third party is going to take your sample because this means the results at the end of the test are going to be legally accepted.
The tester will then send to the appointment a sampling kit and when you attend a simple mouth swab will be taken which is a very straightforward and easy sample to give.
The doctor will send those samples off to the laboratory for testing and once all the samples are at Cellmark we will send the test results out to you within a matter of a few days by first class post.
