Martin Claridge: Varicose vein specialist in Birmingham

Training and experience

Mr Martin Claridge qualified from University College London Medical School in 1996. He trained exclusively in vascular and endovascular surgery during his specialist surgical training in Birmingham and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2009. He was awarded his doctorate for vascular research by Birmingham University in 2010.

Martin completed a year of further specialised training in endovascular surgery in Queensland, Australia where he gained experience in endovascular aneurysm repair and percutaneous management of peripheral arterial disease using angioplasty and stenting. During this time, he won the Atrium Prize from the Australian Society for Vascular Surgery as best trainee.

Martin was appointed as Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at Heart of England Hospitals in 2011 and became Clinical Director of this Trust’s major vascular unit in 2015. He is the Educational Lead for Vascular Surgery in the West Midlands.

Treatment

Knowledgeable and approachable, Martin provides individually tailored walk-in-walk-out treatment for varicose veins and thread veins using a range of minimally invasive endovascular procedures:

• Radiofrequency ablation (RFA)
• Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS)
• Veinlite transilluminated microsclerotherapy

Consultation

Martin is available for private consultation at Premier Veins in Edgbaston, Central Birmingham. Appointments at private hospitals in Solihull, Sutton Coldfield and Droitwich are also available by arrangement.

Stringent Covid-19 safety measures are in place in all Premier Vein clinics and the walk-in-walk-out procedures offered are well suited to Covid-19 working practice, making the risk of contamination low. However, Martin is able to offer remote consultations by telephone or video if preferred.

Fees

An initial consultation with Martin costs £249 which is refunded from the vein treatment plan fee. At this appointment he will:

• Take an in-depth look at the clinical history of the problem
• Perform a clinical examination
• Carry out any non-invasive investigation, including a duplex ultrasound scan, if necessary
• Discuss treatment options and recommend next steps
• Take the time to address any issues or concerns and be available for further discussion if needed

Based on this consultation, Martin will tailor a personalised treatment plan based on the price list below. Consultation and treatment can take place on the same day and procedure packages are inclusive of compression stockings and a follow-up appointment.

Research interests

Martin is actively involved in research, submitting papers for publication and contributing to vascular trials. His interests include EVAR Surveillance and arterial wall stiffness. He travels widely giving presentations at national and international meetings.
