Dr Hughes has been in private practice since 1983. He qualified in Birmingham in 1976 and registered as a GP in 1981 with the Joint Committee Certificate in General Practice. He is an honorary council member and newsletter editor of the Independent Doctors Federation, an organisation promoting independent healthcare and postgraduate education.
Dr Hughes not only consults for problems as they arise but also offers health screening to help avoid them or catch conditions early enough to treat them successfully. These health checks are tailored to the individual’s requirements right through from basic evaluations to VIP checks, making use of the most up-to-date facilities.
MRI, CT, mammography are all done in-house and enable Dr Hughes to discuss the investigations with specialists face-to-face.
Blood tests are taken by the doctor himself and results of standard tests are linked through to the patient’s own file within hours by the laboratory.
Referrals on a personal basis to top specialists can be made with whom there are good working relationships. The practice is in a position to be aware of high-flying new talent.
Travel advice and inoculations are available (it is not a yellow fever centre).
Dr Hughes has a special interest in psychological medicine and co-authored the Penguin publication ‘You don’t have to be Famous to have Manic Depression - The A-Z Guide to Good Mental Health’. He was the originator and an associate producer on the Stephen Fry Emmy award winning documentaries on bipolar illness.
The Practice has many corporate clients working with companies as diverse as finance, the wine industry and music/film.
