Dr Florian Netzer is a consultant vascular surgeon and the founder of Medical Specialists Munich at 10 Harley Street, London. He specialises in the treatment of varicose veins, leg ulcers, thread veins, spider veins, venous valve problems and lipoedema, using endoscopic vein surgery and minimally invasive treatments including foam sclerosation, laser and radiofrequency therapy and hot steam therapy (SVS).
Dr Florian Netzer's 12-year medical training began in 1981 with 6 years' study at the Universities of Regensburg and Munich followed by training in general surgery, abdominal surgery, vascular surgery, emergency and intensive-care medicine in Germany, the USA, England and France.
A highly experienced vascular surgeon in London
In 1994 he established a practice specialising in plastic surgery, inguinal hernias and varicose vein surgery.
Since 2000 he has studied and researched into liposuction, breast enlargement, inguinal hernias and varicose vein surgery with university institutes in the USA, Italy and Eastern Europe.
He is actively involved in the education of surgeons in minimally invasive vein treatment techniques and is the author of 'Das Venenbuch' - a study of all important venous diseases, their current therapies, and the prevention of such illnesses.
Dr Netzer is fluent in German, English, Italian and French.
Vascular surgery and treatments available
Dr Netzer specialises in the treatment of the following venous diseases and conditions:
The following surgery and treatments are available:
Diagnostics - venous disease diagnostics has continuously improved over the last years. Techniques include three-dimensional sonography, the 'rapid cuff inflator', light reflection plethysmography and thermography.
Endoscopic vein surgery - a procedure (which is technically very intricate, but also extremely gentle) that has the very great advantage of allowing a gentle release of the truncal vein from the area while simultaneously severing the side veins without any haemorrhaging.
Laser and radiofrequency therapy - this vein treatment method can be used to treat areas in specific millimetre dimensions and, thanks to computer control, it is a very precise and extremely safe procedure.
Hot steam therapy (SVS) - this very new, very gentle and very efficient procedure for treating varicose veins comes from France. It involves the destruction of afflicted veins through the introduction of small amounts of very hot steam into the veins by way of a catheter.
Minimally-invasive treatment for varicose vein relapses - relapses are the renewed appearance of occasionally extremely distinctive varicose veins following a surgical procedure.
The CELON procedure - gentle treatment for varicose veins using CELON®, a gentle radiofrequency method, in which even finer probes than those employed in the other procedures can be used, and where the tips of the probes are heated to a substantially reduced temperature of only 85°C.
Dr Netzer no longer practises the CHIVA method of vein surgery, which is quite costly and often leaves the patient with considerable scars and is prone to relapses.
Safety first - vein treatments are carried out exclusively at surgical centres and in a clinic in Munich, Germany. Dr Netzer's team has performed more than 6,000 treatments of veins using catheters without a single infection.
Research interests in vascular surgery and varicose vein treatment
The following scientific research is being carried out by Dr Netzer's institute and in the vein clinic in a bid to develop new and more effective vein solutions:
-
Diagnostic and prognostic value of thermography involving pre and postoperative applications in relationship to the elimination of insufficient truncal and perforans veins
-
Long-term observations of patients following surgeries involving an ulcus cruris and simultaneous lipotransfer under the lesion
-
Application of hot steam injections simultaneous with the use of radiofrequency in the region of recurrent varicosis of the cross and the perforans veins
-
Diagnostic significance of pre- and post-operative light reflection rheography
