Dr David West is an interventional radiologist who specialises in varicose vein treatment using a minimally invasive approach. Dr West runs Veincentre Ltd one of the largest specialist varicose vein treatment centres in the UK with branches in South Kensington, London, Newcastle, Staffs, Manchester and Bristol.  

Dr David West FRCR DMRD FRSM MB ChB is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist with a special interest in the minimally invasive management of varicose veins. He was one of the first vascular specialists in the UK to train in Endovenous Laser ablation (EVLA, EVLT, ELves) and VNUS and has personally undertaken over 3000 successful EVLA treatments since 2003. In addition he has extensive experience of other relevant minimally invasive venous treatments including embolisation, foam sclerotherapy, RF perforator ablation, Olympus RFITT  and venous stenting.

This comprehensive range of techniques enables all patients to be successfully managed without surgery. Ongoing clinical audits have demonstrated technical success of performing EVLA of over 99% in the last 500 cases. 95% of patients are satisfied or very satisfied with the outcome of treatment.

David is recognised internationally as an expert in this field and frequently lectures at major medical conferences around the world. He is a faculty member of the European School of Interventional Radiology training doctors from across Europe and the Middle East in non-surgical varicose vein management. He has written chapters on non-surgical treatment of varicose veins in several major medical textbooks and written many scientific articles on the subject. As a luminary teacher and medical director of  SDLmedical laser suppliers he has taught the EVLT technique to many other vascular specialists in the UK.

Varicose vein treatment services provided

A comprehensive range of minimally invasive vein treatments is provided including  EVLA laser ablation and VNUS RF ablation which are now the accepted Gold Standard treatments for varicose veins. These are suitable for about 95% of all patients but some require other minimally invasive techniques like foam sclerotherapy, perforator ablation, embolisation, stenting, microsclerotherapy and Veinwave thermocoagulation.
