Chris Dawson: Consultant Urologist, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

Chris Dawson is a Consultant Urologist practising in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, who specialises in all areas of urological surgery such as: prostate problems, kidney stones, incontinence, erectile dysfunction, bladder problems, oncology and stone disease.

Mr Chris Dawson, BSc (Immunology) MBBS MS FRCS LLDip, has a range of urological interests and a busy NHS practice at the Stamford and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, covering general urology, oncology, and stone disease. He sees private patients at the Fitzwilliam Hospital, Peterborough.

Mr Dawson's training and qualifications in urology

Chris trained at University College, London and qualified in 1986 having taken an intercalated BSc in Immunology. Following his FRCS examination in 1990 he undertook a surgical registrar rotation in Portsmouth before starting his MS thesis at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London working for Mr HN Whitfield.

On completion of his MS thesis he began his higher training in Urology at the Battle Hospital, Reading, moving on to the Institute of Urology in London, and then to Peterborough. During his time as a Senior Registrar in Peterborough he co-authored the ABC of Urology with Hugh Whitfield.

Publications

Chris has continued to publish since his Consultant Post, most notably the award winning The Evidence for Urology which won first prize in the Urology section of the BMA Medical Book competition 2005, and the 2nd edition of the ABC of Urology. The 3rd Edition of the ABC of Urology is due for publication in 2011 and the 2nd edition of The Evidence for Urology is also due to be published later in 2011.

Over the last few years Chris has developed a number of websites including Medical Calculators (a resource containing free scripts for medical calculations) and Urology Information, a developing educational resource primarily for patient use, but also for Medical Students, Urology Trainees, and Urology Nurses.

Medicolegal work

For the last seven years Chris has undertaken medicolegal work privately. In support of this pursuit he completed the Cardiff University Bond Solon Course for Expert Witnesses in 2006 and graduated with a Diploma in Law with the College of Law in June 2008.
