Miss Emma Beddow is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon and sees
private patients at Harefield Hospital, The Wellington Hospital London and The Princess
Grace Hospital, London. She has an NHS practice at Harefield
Hospital, part of The Royal Brompton
and Harefield NHS Trust, the largest centre in the UK for Thoracic Surgery.
She qualified from The London Hospital Medical College (University of London) in 1994 and has been practising
Thoracic Surgery since 1998. She commenced her thoracic surgical training at Barts and The London NHS Trust as an SHO. In 2000 she became the first UK doctor to be
offered a registrar training programme specifically in Thoracic Surgery. She
subsequently spent the next 3 and a half years at The Royal Brompton Hospital,
has been trained by internationally renowned surgeons, and is one of just a
handful of surgeons in the UK to have been fully trained in all aspects of
Thoracic Surgery.
She was appointed Thoracic Surgery Consultant at The Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust in December 2006 and took up position in
January 2007

Teaching
Miss Beddow is the surgical educational supervisor at
Harefield and is heavily involved with junior doctor’s surgical training, both
at SHO and registrar levels. She attends regional registrar assessments and is
a question-writer for the FRCS (C-Th) examination, the examination taken at the
end of registrar training.
