Specialist in spine surgery especially the treatment of disorders of the spine such as fractures, tumours, infections, spinal deformities (scoliosis and kyphosis), degenerative spinal disorders (including sciatica and spinal stenosis) and new techniques for the management of back pain and scoliosis.
Mr James Wilson-MacDonald is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon with current appointments at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust and the Oxford Radcliffe NHS Trust. The majority of his work is in spinal surgery but he also carries out hip replacement surgery.
He graduated from Bristol University in 1978 and completed his MD thesis in bone growth and remodelling in 1988.
Mr Wilson-MacDonald is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Medical Association. He is also a member of the British Cervical Spine Society, the British Scoliosis Society and the British Association of Spinal Surgeons, and has been on the committees of all three societies in the past. In addition he has worked as an assessor for the General Medical Council and the Royal College of Surgeons.
His clinical interests include the management of back pain, deformity and infection and he has published in all these areas.
His MCh in 1988 was based on bone growth and remodelling and he is using this information to develop new techniques for the management of scoliosis and back pain. He has published on a number of randomised controlled trials in various areas of orthopaedics.
Mr Wilson-MacDonald’s NHS base is the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust, an internationally acclaimed centre for diagnosis and treatments of bone, joint and muscle conditions.
